The Lord’s Day

July 18, 2010

Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, for to You I pray. In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice; in the morning I will order

my prayer to You and eagerly watch.

(Psalm 5:2, 3)

Prelude

Apostolic Greeting

*Call to Worship Psalm 96:7-9

Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

Ascribe to the Lord the glory of His name; bring an offering and come into His courts.

Worship the Lord in holy attire;

Tremble before Him, all the earth.

Public Confession

O God, Maker of heaven and earth, You are holy in all Your being and righteous in all Your ways. Against You and You only have we sinned; we have done what is evil in Your sight. Hear these words, dear Lord, and grant us repentance. Forgive us for our sins of thought and speech. Forgive us for our sins of selfishness and neglect of duty. Restore to us the joy of our salvation. Look upon us with mercy for the sake of the One who gave Himself for us. Amen.

Words of Assurance           1 Peter 1:17–19

If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth; knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.

*Declaring Our Faith[†]   Fisher’s Catechism

In what time did God create all things?

In the space of six days.

Could God not have created all things in a moment of time?

Yes; but He saw it more for His own glory, and the good of mankind, to set them an example of working six days, and resting the seventh.

  Pastoral Prayer

*Responsive Reading Psalm 99

The Lord reigns, let the peoples tremble;

He is enthroned above the cherubim, let the earth shake!

The Lord is great in Zion,

And He is exalted above all the peoples.

Let them praise Your great and awesome name;

Holy is He.

The strength of the King loves justice;

You have established equity; You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.

Exalt the Lord our God and worship at His footstool;

Holy is He.

Moses and Aaron were among His priests, and Samuel was among those who called on His name;

They called upon the Lord and He answered them.

He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud;

They kept His testimonies and the statute that He gave them.

O Lord our God, You answered them; You were a forgiving God to them,

And yet an avenger of their evil deeds.

Exalt the Lord our God and worship at His holy hill,

For holy is the Lord our God.
